The Coventry programme was the first scheme in Britain to employ a full time Director of Coaching. The
first appointment was Hamilton Bland, who was the Great Britain Olympic Coach. The current Beacon Head Coach
is Adam Ruckwood and Jo Deakins is the Club Programme Manager.
The scheme has produced numerous successes at National and International level and continues to do so
today.
The scheme is a self-financing structure, receiving no direct monetary support from the City Council or
other agencies. We do however, enjoy a close and positive relationship with the Local Authority. This is
reflected in the encouragement given to talented swimmers progressing from Level 7 of their Inspire Learn
to Swim Scheme, to develop their swimming further in our Coaching Programme via the Pathways scheme. We are
also developing relationships with other Private Learn to Swim Providers within the City and also local
Schools through the Pathways scheme.
The revenue to run our Coaching Scheme is generated by:
1. Monthly billing of Club members
2. The promotion of Open Meet competitions.
3. Fund raising by training squad members and families
