Unfortunately the organisers have informed me that this event is full for this year so we will be unable to take part.

If you are one of these people please download an entry form from www.pnsc.org.uk and send it off yourself. You should be entering whether you are a distance swimmer or not. I have recieved an email today from a researcher from the Gadget show on Channel 5. Details below: I am emailing you from the UK TV programme ‘The Gadget Show’ (Monday, Ch5, Series 10, 8pm) produced by North One TV. ‘The Gadget Show’ is the UK’s leading technology programme and we regularly attract 1.5 millions viewers. The programme features, examines and test the latest gadgets and advances in technology. We are currently looking for a group of 12-16 swimmers (aged 18-40) willing to test three of the latest swimming gadgets alongside our presenters, Suzi Perry, Jason Bradbury and Jon Bentley. Filming will be on the 8th July between 12.00-4.00pm at Edgbaston Priory (Birmingham) – I do apologise for the lack of notice. All we would require from the swimmers is to have a play with three of the latest swimming gadgets - we would then film them giving their opinion of the products. The three gadgets consist of a Swimming mask with integrated camera/camcorder capabilities, a completely waterproof ipod shuffle and an underwater Pogo Stick. Unfortunately, we will be unable to provide payment or travel expenses but we will give all participants lunch (we will need to need if anyone has any special dietary requirements) – it should be a really fun and exciting shoot. If you are interested can I ask that you contact the researcher direct; Charlotte Clappison charlotte.clappison@northonetv.com Thanks

Part of that schedule is swimming and canoeing. Denise is asking if any of our members would be interested in coming along to help in the pool at those sessions? There will only be 12 in the pool at any one time, including parents, but extra pairs of hands belonging to competant swimmers would help them to help the children. If you are interested in helping out send myself an email; joanne.deakins@coventry-swimming.org.uk and I can forward you further information and contact details.

On the last day for Coventry Swimmers at the Olympic Trials James Burden finished off an excellent week with a Regional & County Junior Record in the 100m Freestyle of 53.22. The record had been set since 1983 and was one of the oldest in the record book. Adam Desmond was the last to go in the 1500m freestyle and although a little off his best due to being ill put in a good performance. All in all Coventry swimmers put in a good display this week and we now move on to aim for the ASA Nationals at the beginning of July and then the Bagcat and Youth Nationals at the end of July.

Rikki Morris just missed making the B final of the 200m back in a life time best of 2:05.84 which was also just 0.4 of a second off making the European Junior Team. He may be in the frame to make the England Commonwealth Youth Games Team in October. Mark Strachan swam a seasons best in the 200 Breaststroke and Ryan Morris set a new personal best in the 400m IM last night. We have one more night of heats left to go with James Burden swimming in the 100m Freestyle and Adam Desmond starting in the 1500m freestyle.

Mark Strachan set a life time best in the 100m Breaststroke of 1:03.59 which put him 11th over all and into the "B" FINAL. James Burden lowered his own personal best and County Junior Record in the 50m freestyle in a time of 24.46. Ryan Morris is our other swimmer to compete so far in his first GB National Championships in the 200m IM. He was just outside his best in 2:17.62.
Coventry Swimmers get off to a fast start in the the first session of the Olympic Trials in Sheffield this week with Rikki Morris posting two personal bests in the heats of the 400m Freestyle (4:03.38) and the 100m Backstroke (59.78). The Reception Achievers ‘Current Fees’ was not increased when the number of sessions increased from 2 to 3 and this squad therefore has had a free session for some time. The increase includes a charge for the extra session. We are still unable to extend payment by standing order to all who might wish to pay that way, however the facility is still available for members of Elite, Senior and Junior Performance squads and siblings of swimmers in those squads. If anyone wishes to change to standing order payments please contact John Hughes at john.hughes@coventry-swimming.org.uk Issued on behalf of the Racing Group January 2008
1 - A big THANK YOU to all members who have promptly returned their invoices and Annual Membership and ASA registration fees. 2 - A reminder that all Annual Club Membership and ASA fees have to be paid by 29th February 2008. 3 - Club members are not invoiced by the Club for their monthly Training Fees in January in consideration of this and so most swimmers/parents/guardians/sponsors will not be financially inconvenienced. 4 - Please make cheques payable to 'CITY OF COVENTRY SWIMMING CLUB'. 5 - If anyone has entered the Warwickshire Championships in March and the Club is not in receipt of their Membership/ASA fees by this date, their cards will be withheld, entry fees forfeited and they will not be allowed to compete by the ASA as they are not insured to swim. All coaches are aware of this deadline although they have no obligation to enforce this message. 6 - If any member has not received their invoice for 2008, and/or they wish to change their Governing Body Status, i.e. they wish to compete but don't have competitive (Category 2 ASA) registration, please contact me at allison.stoney@coventry-swimming.org.uk or see me on poolside Fridays 6-8pm and I will invoice you without delay. 7 - If members are joining City of Coventry SC and leaving another club, or leaving us to join another Club, they must complete a Green Resignation Form and submit it to the Club's membership Secretary without delay.
